Who is your Favorite Golden Girl?
Whichever one was played by the butchy chick.

8. When someone says " Who you gonna call? " You think:
GHOSTBUSTERS!!! :D

9. What was your favorite toy?
Doesn't really count as a toy, but in 1980 I got a tape recorder, and I pretty much recorded everything around me on cassette tapes until I hit puberty.

10. Did you have a Pogo Ball?
Nope.

11. Did you listen to New Kids on the Block?
Kind of. They had me at 'Hangin' Tough', but they lost me with 'This One's For the Children'.

12. Which New Kid was your favorite?
Marky Mark.

13. Did you play M.A.S.H?
I did!

14. So many, every color.

16. Did you have a charm necklace and/or bracelet
I did. :) With bright, plastic, chunky charms.

17. Did you own a glo-worm?
Nope.

18. Did you ever own a slap bracelet?
Yes! Several of them.

19. The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles?
Sixteen Candles. But they were both epic.

20. Did you have a crazy hair style?
Not really. Unless you count the time I got a perm. What the hell was I thinking?!

21. What was your first bike?
A Schwinn!

22. Name one thing you still own from your childhood?
A Curious George plush monkey I got in 1976.

23. Did you have a Cabbage Patch Kid?
Yes. Still have her, in fact. My aunt got her for me in the middle of the craze, so the doll holds high sentimental value (since my aunt passed away).

24. Did you dress like Madonna?
A little. :) I liked neon clothes.

25. Did you play Pac Man?
Yes, and Ms. Pac Man too!

31. Which was better: Jem and The Holograms or Barbie and The Rockers!?
Jem! Barbie was just a wannabe on the rockin' doll scene.

32. He-Man or She-Ra?
I'll have to go with He-Man. But She-Ra was great.

33. Did you ever beg your parents to have your school picture taken with the "Laser" background?
It was tacky even back THEN. So no.

39. Do you know what the Ninja Rap is?
Go ninja, go ninja, go!

40.
This is just beautiful. Someone posted an MST3K-type lampooning of an old Dragon Strike VHS instructional video. Interestingly, the video was cowritten by Flint Dille, who I believe wrote some of the GI Joe: Real American Hero episodes in the 1980s.

Anyhow, this is some real serious cheddar that's also seriously hilarious. Enjoy!

Part 1

<lj-embed id="7" />

Part 2

<lj-embed id="8" />

Part 3

<lj-embed id="9" />

Part 4

<lj-embed id="10" />

Awww...why is the really cool, die-cast and articulated version of the movie Bumblebee toy $90.00??? :(

That's a ridiculous price! I mean, I knew it wouldn't be cheap, but I was hoping the retail price would be closer to $50.00. Phooey.

I'd still like to get one of the movie toys, but it won't be the crappy-looking plastic Bumblebee which will probably break in 5 minutes. Fark that. The 'desert pack' with the helicopter & scorpion Decepticons looks like a pretty good deal for $25.00.

Has anyone gotten any of the movie toys? I'm kinda in the mood to hit Toys R Us today and see what's available, but I'm not paying no $90.00 for Bumblebee no matter how cool he is.

Yup! Went to see it today. I picked a great time to go, because there were only a few people there and none of them were in the least bit obnoxious, thank god.

My spoiler-type impressions of Transformers are beneath the fold.

I can see why this movie's grossed so much. In a lot of ways, it was GREAT. It played like a really entertaining comic book would read.

THINGS I LIKED:
~ The Transformer designs. And they sounded and looked very much how I pictured in my mind RL Transformers would be. The movie really made me want to go see how the toys are, which I guess was the point. :)
~ The group of young Pentagon crack-hackers...I'm very sorry they didn't get more film time, in fact.
~ The non-stop action pacing was very good. No dull moments in this film. Predictable, sometimes, but never dull.

THINGS I *REALLY* LIKED:
~ The fight scenes...holy shit. I'm not a fan of CGI because I think it's way overdone, but this was first-rate stuff.
~ The military special missions force. It was like having a little bit of GI Joe in my Transformers. Like having a little bit of Bailey's Irish Creme in my coffee. Just an unexpected treat.

THINGS I FAN-GASMED OVER:
~ Starscream. OMFG, Starscream. EVERY scene with Starscream. Did they EVER get him right.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:
~ Didn't like Sam Witwicky, and I didn't like his love interest Mikayla. Which is unfortunate, because they took up a lot of the movie. :(
~ Sector 7/Men in Black. Very lame. I realize they needed this to explain why Megatron was on ice in a military base, but why did they have to make the main Sector 7 guy such a dumbassed choad? He wasn't even intimidating, and his lines were stupid.

I guess that's pretty much it in a nutshell. :) Overall rating: B+. some things could have done better, but I thought that the Transformers themselves were done exceedingly well, so that made up for some of the plot and supporting character shortcomings.

Camarilla Gaming: Putting the 'Fun' in Dysfunctional

I got a bit nostalgic the other night over my years in The Camarilla, which is a LARP-gaming organization where members can participate in weekly games with original characters (vampires, werewolves and ghouls, according to White Wolf's 'Laws of the Night').

This was a very dysfunctional period of my life, which was 1996 to 1999. I wasn't really functioning on the level I am today. I still had issues with severe depression, anxiety...and reality in general. Participating in the LARP was my grand escape. It wasn't long before I became what's known as a 'Domain Coordinator', which is someone who handles paperwork and site locations for the month.

This resulted in all manner of hilarity. Not only was I almost too depressed to function like a normal human being, but when things got out of hand, I just kind of...stood there, and allowed it to happen. Because I couldn't deal with it. Y'see, some (but not ALL!) of the Cam members were about as dysfunctional as I was, and in some cases, even moreso.

Some of the things that happened were absolutely hilarious, looking back on them now. I could have written a book. But instead, I'll pass along a few anecdotes.

~ One night, our game site was the beach park on SR 60, across from the main HQ of the Church of Scientology. Everything was going well that evening, but I guess we managed to spook the Scientologists, because the Clearwater cops showed up asking what we were doing there. Oops! Uh, we're pretending to be vampires, officer...

~ Another BRILLIANT moment, and perhaps my fondest memory, was a chilly, late December evening in a public park in Largo. Being cold, we lit up the BBQ grill, and huddled around it. Minutes later, we were surrounded by several angry Largo Police officers, who were all yelling commands at us at once. One of them loudly ordered that the fire be extinguished IMMEDIATELY!!! So I think it might have been thorgryn who dumped a 2-liter bottle of Mountain Dew on the grill to put it out. (Or was that Adian?) I dunno, but I always snicker when I think of that.

~ The guy who played the Prince for a while always, ALWAYS showed up to the games baked. He'd smoke a doobie in his car before the game, then sit around and act a lot like John Lennon for a few hours. Heheheh.

~ Another guy who wanted some sort of special authorization for his uber-powerful character took me on a walk one night, and turned on the charm -- ladies, take note...this guy was Don Juan extraordinaire, leaning in close and OOZING with charm. I think I caved to his request, too. Lived to regret it when he got really obnoxious in-game, powergaming left and right.

~ Oh, and the paper-rock-scissors dick wars. So many of those. So many guys bent out of shape over stats on a piece of paper. Hehehe. :) Turned into shouting matches at times.

~ Clove cigarettes. Just to look cool. *coff coff* Lung damage? Impossible! We're immortal!

~ Richard Rech. Hard to explain this guy, he defies explanation. But he was hard not to love, because we sort of fed off each others dysfunctionality at the time. He played a werewolf pup named 'Annoying'. Always wonder what happened to him...

I look back on all of it, and it makes me smile. So...I guess that made it worth it. :) My own character was Lottie Gardner, Malkavian Primogen. I still have the black hat I used to wear when playing her. Can't bring myself to get rid of it.
